REFLECTIVE JOURNAL 3 QUESTIONS
Please, answer substantively and meaningfully, the 5 reflection questions below:
1. After having delivered your persuasive speech or after watching others deliver their persuasive speeches (if you have not delivered yours yet),
a. What concepts, principles, and skills in effective speech communication have been further imbibed in you?
- The time is an impacting aspect of the presentations. The shorter speeches seem to have a greater impact on the audience even though they may contain less information. It is difficult to decide what information in unnecessary to include. The shorter speeches keep the attention of the class the entire time. This is especially important in persuasive speeches because the audience can choose a standpoint on a topic rather quickly.
- I think the most important thing in a speech is to include emotional appeal. There needs to be something in the presentation that reaches out and connects to the audience.
b. What proofs or evidence reflect the set of knowledge and skills you have learned, strengthened, improved or developed?
- It is very important to cite sources. It really makes a big difference in a presentation when someone mentions where they got their information.
- An overview and conclusion help reinforce the main points.
- It is important to leave a MARK on your audience. There needs to be something that they take with them outside the classroom.
2. How valuable do you think are the skills you have gained in effective communication in your personal, academic, and career goals?
The skills I learned in effective speech and communication are extremely valuable. The number one quality that employers look for in an employee is communication skills. Public speaking is a big personal fear for many people. This class requires everyone who has that fear to face it head on. The more opportunities that I had to speak in front of the class, the easier it gets because I am less nervous each time. Is school and in the workplace it is important to be able to professionally express your thoughts and ideas in the form of a speech.
3. If you were to recommend some strategies for success in acquiring skills in effective speech communication from CAS100A class, what specific strategies would you recommend to a peer or fellow students?
- Cite Sources
- Be confident
- List main points and conclusion
- Use logical and emotional appeal
- MARK, CROPS, GAINS
