- In weeks 5, 6, 7, and 8, reflect and discuss on how much you have learned or re-learned further on each of the following areas or set of knowledge and skills:
- Communication (thinking, writing, speaking and listening) skills;
- Collaboration or team work skills;
- Leadership skills;
- Ethics
Please note how you will be graded: You must be able to give in-depth reflections on each of the listed items from a to d; and, your work must be well-organized and must be free from spelling and grammar errors.
Throughout the past four weeks I really feel that I have grown as a speaker. I learned to communicate through speech. I was taught how to present the information properly, and how to establish my point effectively.
The ability to work with others is an important quality to possess. Our class has grown together. Evaluating each other benefits everyone. It is very helpful to have fellow classmates recognize my strengths and identify my weaknesses so that I can improve.
An important leadership quality is having the courage to speak up and present ideas. I have always been a little shy when it comes to public speaking. The experience of speaking in front of the class has been very helpful. It is a true confidence builder.
Ethics are one’s personal principles and values. We learned how to identify our own ethics based on our likes and dislikes. This is a good way to choose a speech topic. An audience can easily identify when the speaker is passionate about their topic.
2. Reflect and discuss how each of the following factors enabled you or contributed further to your learning:
- learning materials
- learning activities or tasks or assignments
- speech delivery and evaluating other speaker’s speech performance
- instructor’s teaching style and approach
- Your own attitude, study and work ethics
Please note how you will be graded: You must be able to give in-depth reflections on each of the listed items from a to d; and, your work must be well-organized and must be free from spelling and grammar errors.
The style of teaching has been very effective. The hands on experiences are the best way to learn. The materials, such as the power points and videos, are extremely helpful. The assignments and activities make me feel very prepared. The speech outlines make the power points much easier to prepare because the material is organized. As previously stated I feel that evaluating each other benefits everyone. It is very helpful to have fellow classmates recognize my strengths and identify my weaknesses so that I can improve. Even though I have a fear I am trying to keep a positive attitude. I always strive to do well on assignments.
3. If there are changes to be made in your own learning style and your instructor’s teaching style, what should these changes be? [Highest Points To Earn: 5 Points]
Please note how you will be graded: You must be able to give in-depth reflections on each of the listed items from a to d; and, your work must be well-organized and must be free from spelling and grammar errors.
The only thing that confuses me at times is the due dates of assignments. I know that the due date of the speech outline was postponed. I thought that in class you said that the due date for this reflective journal was moved from the fifth to the seventh. I hope that is correct. I never want to miss the due date for an assignment. I saw that on the due date on the drop box still said the fifth. I apologize if the assignment is late. I always want to have the assignments submitted on time.
